Adult Christian Initiation (OCIA)

At St. Mary of the Angels, Adult Christian Initiation (also called OCIA—Ordo of Christian Initiation of Adults) is for anyone who wants to know more about what the Catholic Church believes and teaches. We welcome:

• Non-baptized persons who want to become more familiar with Christianity;
• Non-Catholic Christians who wish to learn more about what it means to be a Catholic Christian, and

• • A refresher course to invigorate their faith;
  • To receive sacraments never received, particularly First Holy Communion, Confession (Reconciliation), and Confirmation.

Those who attend the OCIA classes are under no obligation to complete the course or commit to entering the Catholic Church. Should they choose, participants will be prepared to be baptized, make a profession of faith, receive Confirmation and celebrate the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil Mass (the Saturday before Easter).

This is a great opportunity to meet others who are actively seeking the Church as well as the OCIA team who will guide and instruct them on their journey to a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. The OCIA program meets MONDAYS during the school yearin the Museum Room at 7:00 pm, BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 8th, and ending on May 18th.
