Defending the Dignity of Life at Every Stage
The SMA ProLife Group meets once a month to discuss life issues, plan service and community events, and pray for an increase respect for life at all stages. In addition to monthly meetings, the group leads several activities at the parish and in the community throughout the year. Some of their regular activities include the monthly Rosary for Life, Mother’s Day Flower sale and Christmas Wreath sale benefiting The Women’s Center, and participating in Forty Days for Life Chicago. Our ministry continues to evolve and expand with the interests of our members on ProLife issues. Monthly Meetings
ProLife Group meetings are usually the third Monday of the month at 7:00pm. Meetings are temporarily on Zoom, but usually had a small dinner following the evening Mass at 6:00pm and meeting to begin at 7:00pm in the Museum Room, located in the church basement. According to your schedule, join us for dinner, the meeting, or both!
Rosary for Life
The ProLife Group initiated and hosts a Rosary for Life on the first Sunday of the month following the 10:00am Mass (Rosary starts approximately at 11:00am in the downstairs St. Josemaria Chapel). A potluck follows in the Choir Room. All are welcome!
Since COVID, a group has also been praying a call-in Rosary for Life on the phone every Monday at 8:00pm. Please contact Dolores for more details.
40 Days for Life Chicago
Each year, SMA’s ProLife Group signs up for one day of the 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil. Groups and individuals throughout Chicago volunteer to pray for an end to abortion outside of a Planned Parenthood. To learn more about 40 Days for Life, please visit 40daysforlife.com

Spiritual Adoption
2021 will be SMA’s fifth year of taking part of spiritual adoption for unborn babies. Individuals are able to make a commitment to spiritually adopt and pray for a child, beginning at the end of September, for nine months until the time they would be born. The commitment asks for daily prayer for the baby. Prayer is very powerful and there are many babies who may not be born if we don’t pray for them. Sign up for Spiritual Adoption took place after Masses on signup weekend (see date on calendar), but individuals may also contact Dolores Puschautz at momkapuschautz@yahoo.com.
Baby Shower for Aid for Women
In the spring of 2018 & 2019, the ProLife Group hosted baby showers for mothers in need. Parishioners were encouraged to bring gifts for the mothers and their children to church or to the baby shower. One of the showers benefitted clients of Aid for Women. Representatives from Aid for Women joined us for the shower and helped us learn more about Aid for Women’s mission. To learn more, please visit https://www.helpaidforwomen.org. Letters to Inmates on Death Row
Before Christmas, our ProLife members write Christmas cards to men and women imprisoned on Death Row. This is a way of living out the Corporal Work of Mercy, “Visit the Imprisoned”. This charitable act helps members to share joy and hope with the men and women recipients, as well as reminded us to continue praying for those in prison. Letter writing was organized at the November ProLife Meeting.
March for Life Chicago
Each January a group from SMA meets to march in the Chicago March for Life. In 2019, we were proud to have more than forty parishioners from SMA join the March for Life. Life Chain
More than 1,550 cities in the US and Canada participate in Life Chain each year. Individuals and families stand on designated sidewalks and public ways, hold prolife signs, and pray for an end to abortion. SMA ProLife Group participated for the first time in September 2018 and again October 2019.
Mother’s Day Flower Sale & Christmas Wreath Sale to Benefit the Women’s Center
The SMA ProLife Group helps The Women’s Center by hosting two fundraising events – a wreath sale in December and a flower sale in May on Mother’s Day. We are always looking for extra volunteers to help sell wreaths and flowers following Masses on the specific weekends.
